Most external doors in Ireland are fitted with standard style cylinders which are susceptible to snapping and bumping. Pin based cylinders, typically found in timber, uPVC, patio and aluminium door locks, have no resistance to bumping.

Thieves can break into your home within a matter of seconds by simply applying enough force to the cylinder lock, usually with a pair of mole grippers or a claw hammer, and snapping it at its weakest point.

The bumping and snapping of locks is contributing hugely to the growth of burglaries in Ireland. The British Police through “Secured By Design “ introduced a new standard PAS 24 regulating the use of cylinder locks that must now be capable of withstanding both bumping and snapping. This PAS 24 standard is now also recognised in Ireland by the Garda.
Replacing the lock cylinder is an effective and easy way of making your home secure without having to change the entire lock or door. If you have an external PVC , timber or composite door, you can upgrade the euro profile cylinder to a BSI Kitemark approved cylinder, then you can be assured that your home has the very latest security protection.
